Translation :

When the cherryblossom colors flutter, I’m alone
Standing exhausted, I can’t cut off these feelings bottled up inside

When the color of new leaves shake, feelings overflow
I lost sight of everything and drifted towards you

The trees around us told us in silence
That we would both see:
People don’t have to be limited to one place

When the withering leaves change color, I am next to you
And as the passing days fade, our love changes

But please, let these trees
Protect these feelings
Silently rustling your leaves above us,
Just one more time..

Before long, the seasons will pass
And we will be taken somewhere else
But right now, there’s only one thing I know
Embrace me, silently

Covered by the snow, the feelings get lost
The footprints vanish, sounds disappear in vain

But please, let these trees
Protect these feelings
So that, frozen in eternity
We may live on here

The trees around us told us in silence
That we would both see:
People don’t have to be limited to one place

When the cherryblossom colors flutter, I’m alone
Savoring my thoughts of you

Uh huh, listen boy.
My first love story
My angel and my girls
My sunshine
Oh, oh let’s go!

He’s so nice it makes my eyes dazzle
I can’t breathe because he makes me tremble
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby

Oh, I’m so shy I can’t glance up at him
A shy girl falling in love.
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby

(What should I do?) What should I do?
(My trembling body) My trembling body
(Ba-bump x 4) I can’t even sleep because of my beating heart
I look like a fool watching him from afar.

He twinkles brightly, my eyes are dazzled
I’m suddenly shocked!
My trembling body starts tingling
Our eyes meet and I get sucked in by his sweet fragrance

Oh, He’s really pretty, his heart is really pretty
I’m entranced by his eyes
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby

He’s so hot, I can’t touch him
My face is hot and this love is finished
(Was I caught?)
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby
Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby

(Anyway, I like it) Anyway, I like it
(My shy self) My shy self
(I’m not sure) Even though I’m not sure
I still yearn for him every day
Even though all my friend’s said “Can’t you just stop?”
I’m still looking at him foolishly

He twinkles brightly, my eyes are dazzled
I’m suddenly shocked!
My trembling body starts tingling
Our eyes meet and I get sucked in by his sweet fragrance

I couldn’t speak because I was shy
Should I be less timid? What would be good?
Even though my heart beats strong and I’m fidgeting,
I focus on him

He twinkles brightly, my eyes are dazzled
I’m suddenly shocked!
My trembling body starts tingling
Our eyes meet and I get sucked in by his sweet fragrance (My eyes dazzle)

He twinkles brightly, my eyes are dazzled
I’m suddenly shocked!
My trembling body starts tingling
Our eyes meet and I get sucked in by his sweet fragrance

Jang Ja Yeon (장자연) commits suicide

DO you know her? If you're now watching the KBS Series BOF (Boys Before Flowers) she plays as one of the girls in the Jin-Sun-Mi trio. I was really surprised when i watched this news from KBS. The police revealed that “Jang Ja Yeon was discovered to have committed suicide by her sister today at 7:30PM who reported the discovery to the police,” and “Jang Ja Yeon died by hanging herself at the staircase and no suicide notes or any other effect has been found so far.”

Close friends of Jang Ja Yeon say, “Recently Jang Ja Yeon was facing contract renewal problems with her management company and deeply troubled by problems in the drama among other things,” and also, “Today at 2:30PM, there was a phone call in which she said it’s too difficult and I want to die.”

Hearing the sudden sad news of Jung Ja Yeon’s suicide, Lee Min Ho, Koo Hye Sun, Kim Bum, Kim Joon and the rest of the cast of ‘Boys Over Flowers’ plunged into shock.

Taxi in Korea

TAXIES are plentiful and relatively inexpensive everywhere in Korea, especially in cities. The most common way to get a taxi is to flag one on the street (stick out your hand, palm down and move your hand toward you.) Available taxis are identified by a red light just inside the passenger-side windshield or by the cap light on top. You can also go to a taxi stand (usually has a yellow canopy with TAXI written clearly near the top) or telephone for a call taxi. It’s best to flag a cab that is facing the direction in which you need to go (if you can figure it out)– if not, it could take up to 15 or 20 extra minutes for the driver to get around the block since left turns are often not allowed. Some drivers will refuse to take you if they are going in the opposite direction to the one you need.

An increasing number of taxi drivers speak English and certain taxis offer a free interpretation service for English, Japanese, and Chinese via mobile telephone. If your taxi does not have a ‘free interpretation’ sign or if you’re having trouble convincing the driver that you need interpretation, call 02-1330 (if you don’t have a cell phone ask the driver for his ‘handee’ phone.

Reaching your destination:
Drivers know landmarks, but are not generally aware of the street address (should there be one). So, before leaving for your destination, if possible, get someone to give you the landmarks nearby (as many don't speak English, it's also helpful to have the information written in Korean). Most drivers know hotels, but as in the case of two-named ones, should yours not understand where you want to go, try using only the Korean part of the name or the major part. For example, to get to the Westin Chosun Hotel, say Chosun Hotel and the Millennium Hilton, say Hilton - pronouncing the consonants clearly. With 'new' hotels, many drivers still go by the old names such as for example the Grand Hilton, which used to be the Swiss Grand.
If all else fails, you can try the free interpretation service available for taxies(the driver will call) or try 02-1330 (1330 from a landline) where an English-speaking person will help you communicate with the driver.
You can also carry a card from your hotel or have a business card make with a map to your home. Don't let any of the above worry you, it's usually easy to get around in taxies, but help is at hand if you run into problems.
Fortunately, most taxi drivers will take pains to take you where you want to go, even stopping to ask people on the street for help if the destination is obscure.
At some large hotels, the doorman will help hail a taxi. He may also give you the number of the taxi so that you can lodge a complaint if necessary.

Fares are shown on the meter and all taxies have meters. When you get into the vehicle, it is a good idea to make sure that the driver has cleared the meter after the previous passenger (should show 0, then 1900 – the base fare). You may also want to make sure the meter is on and doesn’t continue to register ‘0’. Regular taxi fares begin at W1900 and increase by increments of W100 according to time/distance, while deluxe taxies begin at W4000 and increase by W200. Drivers do not pay toll fees in the city, but they do on trips to the airport. The toll cost is then often passed on to the passenger – added to the meter charge.

Refusing Fares is not uncommon. Some drivers will refuse a fare the person is going only a short distance – they would rather keep driving around fare-less for some unfathomable reason. You may also be refused because your destination is too far away or in the wrong direction if the driver is going off shift soon or wanting to take a meal break at a certain hour. Because of the fear of language problems, drivers will sometimes drive past foreigners trying to hail them.

Taxi sharing (hapseung) still occurs on occasion, although it is not legal. Hapseung means that your driver may stop for additional passengers who are headed your way. Fares are not shared and each party pay his/her own so they check the metered fare when entering, deduct this amount when getting out and add the minimum charge. Drivers rarely do this when carrying foreign passengers, but should it happen, you can tell him not to pick up more passengers.

Entering the taxi is generally done from the passenger’s side, even if you’re going into the back seat. The back door on the driver’s side is still often locked. Taxis can take up to 3 adults.

Tipping is neither customary, nor expected, although a ten percent tip might be appropriate for special services. Drivers will sometimes insist on giving you the exact change, even when you try to tip him/her.

Payment is usually in cash. However, as of early 2007, riders can pay with a credit card or with their T-Money card in some cabs. Eventually, all taxies will take T-money payments.

Receipts are available from all taxis now. They are connected to the meter and therefore show the exact fare and mileage. The print out can be quite small. If the driver does not understand receipt, you can say it in Korean: yong-su-jung choo-say-yo.

ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT In case you have left something in the cab, you can immediately contact the driver. The receipts all have a contact phone number for the driver, usually a cell phone number, although a few show only a landline number. Your receipt can also help you identify the driver should there have been a problem and you were unable to get the driver's ID before exiting the cab.

Call Taxies are also available (although most people just flag a taxi on the street or go to a taxi stand). It is often difficult to explain your location to the operator/dispatcher even if he/she understands English. An increasing number of taxies are now equipped with GPS and eventually it should be easier. However, for now, you usually have to arrange to meet the taxi at a designated landmark that the Korean taxi driver is sure to know – a hotel, a market, a department store, a famous restaurant, etc. For this reason and also because the operators don’t often speak English, it is helpful to have a Korean-speaker make the call. (Note: you can also arrange for the 1330 operator to translate for you)

To get a call taxi dial
1588-0082 – KT Powertel
1588-3382 – Kind Call Taxi
1588-2382 – Seoul City Call
The fare for a call taxi is the same as the general taxies plus W1,000 over the amount shown on the meter.

Some companies also set up billing accounts with Call Taxies. You just call (or have a Korean speaker do so) and give the company ID number. Your ride will be added to the company’s bill.

DongDaeMun

Dong means East, Dae means big, Mun/Moon means gate--so you've got a Great East Gate. Dongdaynum has department-type stores (Hello apm and Galleria are big ones) that are more like indoor bazaars. Each of the 9-10 floors are made up of about 80 sellers of basically whatever you like (mostly clothes). There are other buildings housing home furnishings and other specialty shops (nice thing, they are all concentrated in one place, making shopping easier).

If you find yourself in traffic in the middle of the night, it is likely that you are near Dongdaemun Market. Dongdaemun sells a variety of products like Namdaemun, however it is open 24-hours a day. The powerful appeal of Dongdaemun Market stems from the fact that you can buy everything you need at a reasonable price, in one convenient location and at anytime. The market is full of small stores selling their products on the street as well as several larger structures like Doosan Tower where hundreds of separate stores are contained.

Tax Refund System at Doosan Tower
Doosan Tower, a large local-fashion mall located in Dongdaemun Market, has a tax refund system enabling foreign tourists to claim a ten-percent refund on goods they purchase here. Currently 100 shops are participating ; Doosan tower plans to have all shops participate in the near future. When visitors purchase goods at shops displaying the "Tax-Free Shopping" signs, they can be reimbursed for the ten-percent VAT at the "Korea Refund" center located on the third floor of the passenger terminal building of Incheon International Airport. Doosan Tower also has a center offering information in several foreign languages and a variety of convenient services such as calling taxis, etc.

Foreigner Information Center of Doosan Tower
Tel : 82-2-3398-3114 (from 10:00 a.m. to 2 a.m. the next day)
Korea Refund Tel : 82-2-537-1755

Information Center for Foreign Shoppers An information center is open for prospective customers of Dongdaemun Market, both domestic and foreign alike, on the 2nd floor of Dongdaemun Tourist Information Center. Various services promoting shopping and exportation of products are offered here.

Outside there are many others hawking accessories, socks, toiletries (cheapest razors in Seoul, 1,000 won for 10...yes, less than US$0.10 each!), toys and food.

Everything is here.

Bargain everywhere. Never pay full price, always 10%-20% should come off. Never take your wallet out until you have the price firm. Never get too excited about an item. Always show flaws or make up some option or color you would prefer (one that they cannot give, thus should give you a discount for not having it). Always buy 2 or more items...should get a 20% discount at least for that. If you get 30%-35% off consider yourself a local.

Address:
Dongdaemoon Stadium Station (Lines 2,5,4) Exit #14

Directions:
Just get out at #14 (the busiest exit) and continue walking down the street. Hello apm and Galleria will appear on your left in a bit. Also check out the ji-ha-ba-do (street underpass/underground arcade) for more deals.
